F-111 External Differences (at a glance!)

It can be confusing to distinguish which characteristics one F-111 type had compared to others. For example, the longer wings were attached to the F-111B, F-111C, F-111K and FB-111A / F-111G, but only the F-111F and F-111C were eventually fitted with the PaveTack Pod system. In an attempt to simplify the external differences, the following table is constructed:

cockpit (ejection seats in some in lieu of module)
between engine exhaust / fuel dump outlet area
spin chutes on some, etc
F-111A TF-30 P3 / P103 Translating Cowl and Splitter Plate
Triple Plow I 		Short Light Analogue avionics updated by AMP
F-111B TF-30 P12 Translating Cowl and Splitter Plate
Triple Plow I 		Long Heavy USN version. Short radome. Was to be fitted with Phoenix AAM.
RF-111A TF-30 P3 / P103? Translating Cowl and Splitter Plate
Triple Plow I 		Short Light Only one example produced.
F-111C TF-30 P3 / P103 / P109 Translating Cowl and Splitter Plate
Triple Plow I 		Long Heavy RAAF version. Fitted with PaveTack in 1980's. Analogue avionics being updated by AUP.
Only F-111 capable of firing Harpoon and HARM.
Soon to be fitted with AGM-142 Have Nap / Popeye / Raptor
RF-111C TF-30 P3 / P103 / P109 Translating Cowl and Splitter Plate
Triple Plow I 		Long Heavy RAAF F-111C significantly modified to install numerous cameras and other EO devices resulting in a bulge to the weapons bay.

Analogue avionics being updated by AUP.

F-111D TF-30 P9 / P109 Triple Plow II Short Light First Digital F-111 equipped with Mark II avionics. Pulse Doppler radar.
RF-111D Proposed reconnaissance F-111D cancelled on the drawing board for the cheaper RF-111A which was subsequently also cancelled.
F-111E TF-30 P3 / P103 Triple Plow II Short Light Updated design of the F-111A ordered due to delays in acceptance of the F-111D.
Analogue avionics updated by AMP
F-111F TF-30 P100 Triple Plow II Short Light Avionics updated by Pacer Strike. Fitted with PaveTack after initial production.
F-111G TF-30 P7 / P107/ P108 Triple Plow II Long Heavy Ex FB-111A 's transferred from SAC. RAAF purchased 15 in 1993.
F-111K TF-30 P3 / P103 Translating Cowl and Splitter Plate
Triple Plow I		 Long Heavy British (RAF) cancelled order of 46.

YF-111A designation also used at some stage, but different to pre-production F-111A		 TF-30 P3 / P103 Translating Cowl and Splitter Plate
Triple Plow I		 Long Heavy British (RAF) cancelled order of four as first two were nearing completion.

FB-111A TF-30 P7 / P107 Tripple Plow I (first 2) Triple Plow II Long Heavy SAC bomber. Analogue avionics updated by AMP. Some were to be redesignated F-111G.
FB-111B Planned SAC bomber which did not eventuate.
FB-111H Next Generation FB-111 SAC bomber which failed to get off the drawing board.
EF-111A TF-30 P3 / P103 / P109 Translating Cowl and Splitter Plate Short Light Ex F-111A 's extensively modified by Grumman for Electronic Warfare. 'Canoe' at weapons bay and large structure on vertical tail fin.
